A private path for
everyday browsing
ExpressVPN is the introduction to a private-connection app. Choose a location, see the encrypted path, and read what the screen is showing.
No tunnel is opened here. No payment is taken.
Sample screen

One screen for the connection.
The app view keeps the location, the timer, and the path on the same screen.
The place name on the screen is the server you chose, not the network you are sitting on.
Traffic to that server is scrambled, so the local network sees a tunnel.
Turn it off when you are finished. The next site opens on your usual connection.
The idea
What is a VPN?
A virtual private network is an encrypted path between your device and a server you choose. The site you open sees that server's address instead of the network you are sitting on.
It can reduce snooping on a café Wi-Fi network. It does not make a page trustworthy after you arrive, and it does not hide the words you type into that page.
See how a plan is comparedWhat this kind of app is for
These are the jobs a private-connection screen usually explains. ExpressVPN does not perform them from this page.
A location you choose
The server list is a place name you pick, not a promise that every city is online.
An encrypted path
Traffic between the app and the chosen server is scrambled so the local network sees less.
A visible timer
The sample screen shows how long the connection has been on, so the state is not a mystery.
Common devices
The same account idea is usually offered on phones, computers, and a few home devices.
Several devices
Plan comparisons often say how many devices can be signed in together.
No activity story on this page
This introduction does not record the sites you visit, because it never opens a connection.
Example locations
These names show how a location list reads. This page is not connected to a server in any of them.

When people open a VPN
A few ordinary moments. The app still has to be a real client on the device. This page is not that client.
Travel
Hotel and airport networks are shared. A tunnel keeps that network from reading the raw traffic.
Public Wi-Fi
A café login page is a rough place to type a password. The tunnel covers the path, not the site itself.
Shopping
People compare a store from another region. The site still applies its own rules.
Games
Some games behave differently by region. A VPN does not raise your skill or your rank.
Shared files
The path can be encrypted. The files you choose to send are still your responsibility.
At home
A router profile can cover devices that cannot install an app. Setup belongs to the real client.
How the path changes
Without a VPN
The site and the local network both see the address of the connection you are using now.
With a VPN
The local network sees a tunnel. The site sees the address of the server you chose.
How plans are usually lined up
Duration is the comparison. Prices are not listed here, and nothing on this page starts a subscription.
Month
A short look. Easy to describe as cancel-when-you-stop in a real billing system. This page has no billing system.
Go to the siteYear
The column most homepages put in the middle. Still no price and no checkout here.
Go to the siteLonger
The column homepages use when they want the smallest monthly figure. The figure is not shown.

Does this page connect a VPN?
No. It only explains the screen. Your traffic does not leave through an ExpressVPN server.
Will you store what I click?
The plan button only reveals a note on this page. Nothing is sent and nothing is saved as a lead.
Can I use this as a download?
There is no installer on this page. Device names are a list of where a real client would normally run.
